The Process,
Made Clear
A Simple Path From Interest to Enrollment
Enrollment doesn't have to feel confusing. We've broken the process into clear steps, so you always know where you are and what comes next — from your student's grade level and application window, to the lottery, to the day they officially become part of SLA.
Where Students Enter SLA
Grade 6 Is Our Main Point of Entry
Consistently rated a top public charter school in the state of Florida, SLA is an academically achieving, community-based middle school serving approximately 300 students in grades 6-8. Our school offers a unique blend of traditional classroom instruction, character development, and individual support to equip students with the skills to thrive in high school and beyond.
If Applications Exceed Available Seats
Mark Your Calendar for Open Enrollment
Each year, SLA opens a defined enrollment window when new applications are accepted. Dates are announced ahead of time and shared here and across our school communication channels, so families know exactly when to submit their application. Applying within the open window gives your student the best chance at a spot.
When to Apply
A Fair, Random Selection Process
Because SLA is a popular choice for families, we sometimes receive more applications than we have available seats. When that happens, a mandatory random lottery selection is held to fill open spots fairly. Every timely application has an equal chance, and results are shared with families as soon as the lottery is complete.
What Happens After You're Accepted
Next Steps to Secure Your Student's Seat
If your student is offered a seat, we'll notify your family by mail or email with the details you need to move forward. From there, you'll be asked to complete and return an enrollment agreement and any required paperwork by a stated deadline, so we can confirm your student's place at SLA.
If a Grade Level is Currently Full
You Still Have a Path Forward
If your student's grade doesn't have an open seat right now, they can be added to our waitlist. Families are contacted in order as openings become available, by email and/or phone, so it's important to keep your contact information current. You can check current waitlist status anytime on our Lottery & Results page.
