Summer Reading & Math
To stay brushed up on reading skills over the summer, we have two options for Summer Reading and one for Summer Math. All summer work is optional but highly encouraged! Please note that the purpose of these plans is to review skills, not learn new skills. Students may earn casual days for completing Summer Plans. Please see each plan for details.
Summer Math Plans
To stay brushed up on math skills over the summer, we encourage students to use our Summer Math Skills Plan. This is optional but highly encouraged! The purpose of these plans is to review skills, not learn new skills!
1. Skill Plan on IXL: Choose the Skill Plan for the grade level and class your student has just completed.

- Students will need to print the PDF files for their appropriate grade level and write down their scores as they progress through the skills.
- Your student will log on to IXL.com using their N# and SLApin.
- Example: Username: N123456; password: SLA12345
- Choose a B.E.S.T. Standards category, work on each skill within that category until a SmartScore of 80 is reached, and record the score on the Skills Plan. For each category completed, students will earn one casual day.
Please return completed Summer Math Skill Plans to your math teacher by Friday, August 14, 2026.

Summer Reading Plans
To stay brushed up on reading skills over the summer, we have two options for Summer Reading. Summer Reading is optional but highly encouraged! The purpose of summer reading is twofold... one is to keep skills fresh, but the other is to just garner a love for reading!
1. Summer Workbook Log: Choose one of the many workbooks available. We have linked to a list below of workbook ideas, but other age-appropriate workbooks are permissible. Feel free to email us to double check!

Students will need to print the PDF "Workbook Log" and write down their progress as they work through the book.

Summer Bridge Activities - Choose the "bridge" appropriate for your student. If your student is advanced or accelerated, feel free to choose a grade-level ahead.

Spectrum - Choose either "Reading" or "Language Arts" for the grade level your student just completed. Advanced or accelerated students may choose a grade level ahead.

2. Summer Reading Project: Choose a book from the list under the grade level your student is about to enter. Your student will read the selected book and choose one project from the Project Choice Board to complete. For each book/project completed, students will earn three casual days.

Only one project may be completed per book.

Please look through the list with your student, take a moment to research each novel, and select a novel together that aligns with your family values.

Please return completed projects and/or Summer Workbook Logs (along with the workbook!) to your ELA teacher by Friday, August 14, 2026.

Intensive Reading Summer Read 180 Plan
Students who were pulled for Intensive Reading interventions or ESE reading services during the 2025-2026 school year at SLA have the option of working online on Read 180 to earn casual days.
1. Summer Read 180 Log
- Students will need to print the PDF "ILA Read 180 Log" and write down their progress as they work through the program.
- To access Read 180, please follow these steps:
- Go to: https://www.hmhco.com/ui/login
- Choose United States and Florida
- Type Student Leadership Academy (NOT Sarasota County Charter Schools!)
- From there, you should be redirected to an SSO sign in, which will allow your student to log in using their SLA Google account!
